        From Benjamin Britten, you can always expect his operas to be neither tuneful nor accessible; but there is such profound atmosphere and tone color in this new experience for me that, tonight, my long-running distaste for the composer was ever more eroded (since the revelation when WNO mounted its great Billy Budd production a few seasons ago).
